Paragliding

Since the 1970s, not only birds have been flying in the sky over Mayrhofen. Over the years, the Zillertal region has earned a reputation as the perfect place for paragliding and hang gliding. It is an area with the best conditions - the cable cars that take pilots to the starting point in minutes and the thermals in the valley are truly perfect for experiencing long, unforgettable flights. Some even fly across the border to Italy, which is just beyond the main Zillertal ridge.

Due to its long tradition as the perfect "air base," Mayrhofen offers very good infrastructure for pilots. Air taxis take you to your chosen starting points - if they are not reachable by cable car. There are several flight schools that teach flying, understanding wind, weather, and thermals. Those who just want to experience the feeling of flying can book a tandem flight with an experienced pilot.

A new trend that combines paragliding and hiking is called "hike & fly". You climb a mountain and then fly back down to the valley with a special, very light paraglider.
